Read on for some of our best practices that will help maximize your productivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Perform Visual Inspection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Begin by performing a walk-around inspection of your machine, looking for any fluid on the ground that would indicate a leak. Next, examine the machine\u2019s undercarriage for any leaks or debris, and then check the final drive seals and bolts to ensure they\u2019re tightened to proper specs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Inspect Air Filters &amp; Dust Valve<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the visual inspection is completed, turn your attention to the machine\u2019s air filters. Start with the cabin air filters. There are usually two \u2013 one inside the cab that filters recirculating air, and another outside that filters fresh air. Inspect the filters to see if they\u2019re dirty, and if they are, <a href=\"https:\/\/parts.cat.com\/en\/carter\/filters-air-filters#sortBy=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">replace them<\/a> as they\u2019re not designed to be cleaned. Then, move on to the machine\u2019s engine air filter. If the engine is equipped with an electronic air filter indicator, you\u2019ll receive an in-cab notice when the filter has reached the end of its life. On engines with a mechanical filter, the indicator will be located near the filter itself. While checking the engine air filter, also examine the dust valve, located near the filter housing. The valve should be flexible and should open and close to allow debris to escape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Check Fluid Levels<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Start by checking the windshield wiper fluid level (if applicable) and refilling as necessary. Next, check the machine\u2019s oil levels, ensuring that you cover them all, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-size:10px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/parts.cat.com\/en\/carter\/oils-diesel-engine#sortBy=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Engine oil<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:10px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/parts.cat.com\/en\/carter\/oils-hydraulic#sortBy=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hydraulic oil<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:10px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/parts.cat.com\/en\/carter\/oils-transmission\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Transmission fluid<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:10px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/parts.cat.com\/en\/carter\/oils-axle-final-drive-oil\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Final drive oil<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:10px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/parts.cat.com\/en\/carter\/oils-axle-final-drive-oil\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Swing drive<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:10px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/parts.cat.com\/en\/carter\/oils-gear#sortBy=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Differential oil<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>When finished, double check to confirm that you\u2019ve closed and secured the caps on every fluid reservoir and analysis port. Also remember to <a href=\"https:\/\/parts.cat.com\/en\/carter\/fluids-greases#sortBy=0\">grease<\/a> your machine on a regular basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Search for Leaks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are several areas where leaks are more common than others. Examine them closely for any signs of fluid leakage, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Cooler unites and fins<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wheel motors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hydraulic components<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Batteries<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Filters and lines on the fuel-water separator; remember to also drain the separator periodically<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hoses and their fittings\/connections<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Performing this daily inspection is quick and easy, and in the long run can save a lot of money by preventing equipment failures and unplanned downtime.
